While the odds are not great that a new Mass Effect game is coming in the near future, especially after the mixed reception earned by Mass Effect: Andromeda, there is still room for growth in the series. Or, sometimes, room for parody.

While video games are always perfectly at home lampooning media from other mediums, it is not too often that they parody games in the same vein. That is exactly what upcoming title Minimal Affect will do, however, as it is a parody of the Mass Effect series as a whole, as well as of other popular science fiction and action RPG tropes. Considering the deep lore of Mass Effect, there’s a lot of material to work with for comedy.

However, while the game may be a comedy in terms of story and cartoonish visuals, it seems it will take its gameplay quite seriously, with a third-person shooter RPG system that mirrors Mass Effect’s closely. Only time will tell if there are hard decisions to make like in the Mass Effect games, though the outcomes may be a bit more ridiculous than Mass Effect’s.

Minimal Affect will release in 2021 for most consoles and PC.
